NPC Chairman, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra presents gift plaque to the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charlse Soludo, CFR during the advocacy visit at Government House, Awka

The Chairman of the National Population Commission, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, has disclosed that census data will provide the solution to the security challenges bedeviling the country and place it on the pathway of economic progression and sustainable development.

Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, at the Government House, Awka, to brief His Excellency about the ongoing Trial Census exercise and other preparations for the conduct of the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

NPC Chairman stated that the aim of the visit was to create public awareness of the ongoing Trial census exercise which is a dress rehearsal for the 2023 Population and Housing Census. He added that it was also to solicit the support of the Government and good people of Anambra State for the success of the 2023 Census which has a direct impact on the socio-economic and political life of Nigerians.

Kwarra noted that the Commission has intensified the preparation of the 2023 Population and Housing Census with the conclusion of the Enumeration Area Demarcation exercise in 99% of the LGAs across the States of the Federation as well as the 1st and 2nd Census Pre-test exercises.

According to Kwarra while addressing the Government House Pressmen after the meeting with Governor Soludo, he said that the engagement revolved largely around the quality of data generated by previous censuses, and the need for significant alterations in the 2023 enumeration instrument to include areas that can help National planning with accurate data in line with prevailing realities.

In his response, Governor Soludo, assured the Chairman of the Commission, that the government and good people of Anambra State will work to achieve a successful census, bearing in mind that population census directly impacts the people’s socio-economic and political life.

The Governor promised to appoint a Special Adviser on Census matters to facilitate a smooth and mutually beneficial engagement between the State Government and the Commission as well as build bridges between the Commission, the State and the people for the purpose of the coming census.

In a similar development, the Chairman of NPC, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra and his entourage, also, visited Alor in Idemili South LGA of Anambra State to monitor the commencement of the person’s enumeration in the State. Hon. Kwarra observed the enumeration of the household of the President-General of Alor town, Chief Uzoma Igbonwa by the Enumerators.

NPC Chairman and his team also paid a courtesy visit to the Igwe of Alor, His Royal Highness Igwe Collins Ebelechukwu Chukwumesili (Ebubechukwuzo) Ezediohamma III, to solicit his fatherly blessing in mobilizing the community members to cooperate and support the Trial Census exercise and the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra was accompanied on the visit by the Honourable Federal Commissioners from the Southeast zone, Acting Director-General, Directors and other support staff of the Commission.
