NPC Officials listing President Muhammadu Buhari Household in Daura, Katsina State

In continuation of the advocacy visits to the major stakeholders ahead of the 2023 Population and Housing Census, the Chairman of the National Population Commission, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, today led the NPC delegation to visit the President of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR in his country home Daura, Katsina State.

The visit was to create awareness about the ongoing Trial Census exercise and brief the President on the level of preparedness of the Commission to conduct the first fully digital Population and Housing Census in Nigeria next year. The meeting was also an opportunity to call on Mr. President to galvanize support for the successful conduct of the 2023 Census.

During the visit, the president’s house was numbered and enlisted by the NPC enumerators to mark the commencement of the Trial Census fieldwork in Daura LGA.

In attendance at President Buhari’s house to receive Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra and his entourage, were the Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Mallam Garba Shehu among other top presidential Aides.

Hon. Kwarra explained the modalities and technicalities of the Population and Housing Census to the President. He said President Buhari had been designated number one on the list, from Daura, Katsina State, and his house was also the first.

NPC Chairman disclosed that everyone in Nigeria during the 2023 census exercise will be counted and that no one will be left behind.

In his remarks, President Buhari assured the NPC Chairman of his administration’s full support to ensure that the Commission delivers the most credible, reliable and acceptable census to the nation. He urged field functionaries to justify the confidence of the government by returning accurate, verifiable and dependable data.

“I am happy you have started the process, and congratulations. I know this will require a lot of time, skill and stamina,” President Buhari added.

Recall that three months ago, the National Council of State led by President Buhari, approved the conduct of the next census to be held in April 2023.

In a similar vein, the NPC Chairman and his team also visited the Emir of Daura, HRH Dr. Umar Faruk Umar to seek his fatherly blessing and support to sensitize and mobilize the masses for the ongoing Trial Census in Daura LGA and the main census next year.
