NPC CHAIRMAN PAYS SYMPATHY VISIT TO GOVERNOR ZULUM IN MAIDUGURI

Today, 17th October, 2024, the Chairman of National Population Commission, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra and his entourage visited the Executive Governor of Borno State, His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Zulum to express solidarity and sympathy with the government and people of Borno State over the devastating flood disaster that recently ravaged several parts of Maiduguri and its surrounding areas.

Today, 17th October, 2024, the Chairman of National Population Commission, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra and his entourage visited the Executive Governor of Borno State, His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Zulum to express solidarity and sympathy with the government and people of Borno State over the devastating flood disaster that recently ravaged several parts of Maiduguri and its surrounding areas.

Hon. Kwarra, in his address to Governor Zulum, conveyed the NPC’s deepest sympathies and support during this challenging time.

He acknowledged the immense loss of life and property, highlighting the emotional and physical toll the disaster has taken on the community.

‘The flooding has resulted in significant damage to infrastructure and has disrupted the daily lives of countless residents.

"The National Population Commission shares in your pain, loss, and displacement," he stated.

Kwarra stated that the Commission has super-imposed NPC building dataset generated from the Enumeration Area Demarcation exercise over the flood zone areas in Borno State and discovered that an estimated number of 129,900 buildings were affected by flood in which 55.8% of the affected buildings are residential while 43.5% are non-residential. He said that 96.83% of the affected buildings were privately owned while 1.24% were owned by the government. He further stated that the estimated number of households affected is 132,585 while the estimated number of persons affected is 700,701.

He expressed admiration for Governor Zulum's unwavering commitment to the welfare of Borno's residents, commending his leadership in providing relief and support to those affected by the disaster.

In a gesture of support, NPC Chairman announced a donation of 10 million Naira contributed by the Chairman, Federal Commissioners, Management and staff of the Commission to assist in the relief efforts and provide care for the affected flood victims.

Kwarra offered prayers for the strength and comfort of those who have suffered losses, emphasizing the importance of unity and resilience in the face of adversity.

"We are confident that under your guidance, Borno State will overcome this challenge and emerge stronger," he concluded.

In response, Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum expressed his gratitude to the NPC Chairman and his team for the visit of solidarity and the generous donation, noting that the gesture underscored the strong bond between NPC and Borno States and promised that the funds would be used to support those in dire need.

Concerning the NPC Borno State office that was ravaged by the flood disaster, the Governor promised to assist the Commission in rebuilding the damaged structures.

Hon. Kwarra’s team included the Federal Commissioner, Akwa Ibom State, Chief Engr. Benedict Ukpong, Federal Commissioner, Kaduna State, Hajia Sa’adatu Garba Dogonbauchi, some directors and technical staff of the Commission.
