President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in 17 Honourable Federal Commissioners of the National Population Commission, which he nominated last November.
The 17 new and returning Federal Commissioners took the oath of office at the Council Chamber of the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
The newly sworn-in NPC Federal Commissioners include: Hon. Emmanuel Trump Eke (Abia); Dr. Clifford T. O Zirra (Adamawa); Hon. Chidi Christopher Ezeoke, mni (Anambra); Barr. Isa Audu Buratai (Borno); Bishop Alex Ukam (Cross River); Hon. Mrs. Blessyn Brume-Ataguba (Delta) and Dr. Jeremiah Ogbonna Nwankwagu (Ebonyi).
Others are Dr. Tony Aiyejina (Edo); Hon. Ejike Ezeh (Enugu); Hon. Abubakar Damburam (Gombe); Prof. Uba Nnabue (Imo); Mrs. Saadatu Garba Dogonbauchi (Kaduna); Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa (Kano); Hon. Yori Afolabii (Kogi); Hon. Mrs. Mary Ishaya Afan, mni (Plateau); Hon. Saany Sale Sule (Taraba) and Prof. Ogiri Itotenaan Henry (Rivers).
Recall that on 8th November 2023, President Tinubu appointed 20 Federal Commissioners to the NPC, nine of whom were appointed for a second term in office.
Subsequently, three nominees, Olakunle Sobukola (Ogun), Temitayo Oluwatiyi (Ondo) and Sen. Mudashiru Husain (Osun) were later replaced by Hon. Fasuwa Johnson Abayomi (Ogun), Mrs. Olukemi Victoria Iyantan (Ondo) and Dr. Amidu Tadese Raheem (Osun). The nominees from Ogun and Osun States have been screened and confirmed by the Senate while their swearing-in by Mr. President will be at a later date.
Meanwhile, the Commission comprises a Chairman and 37 Federal Commissioners, one from each State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Last year the tenure of 20 out of the 37 Federal Commissioners expired and Mr. President reappointed 9 and appointed 11 new Federal Commissioners.
The Commission welcomes and congratulates the 17 Federal Commissioners.
