NIGERIA COMPUTER SOCIETY PLEDGES TO SUPPORT NPC IN CONDUCTING THE FIRST DIGITAL POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS IN NIGERIA

The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has pledged to partner and support the National Population Commission to conduct the first digital Population and Housing Census in Nigeria.

National President of the Nigeria Computer Society, Prof. Adesina Simon Sodiya, FNCS, stated this commitment when he led a delegation of the professional body to pay a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, fnsa, at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja.

The visit discussed ways the NCS could collaborate with the NPC to conduct the first digital Population and Housing Census in Nigeria.

In his remarks, Prof. Sodiya commended the NPC for its efforts in planning and preparing for the census, and expressed the NCS’s readiness to support the Commission in any way possible. He said that the NCS had a wealth of experience and expertise in information communication technology and would be willing to share this expertise with the NPC to ensure the success of the census.

Hon. Kwarra expressed his appreciation for the NCS’s support and said that the Commission would be working closely with the NCS to ensure that the census is conducted promptly and efficiently. He said that the census would be a critical tool for planning and development in Nigeria and that it was important that it be conducted accurately and fairly.

The two organizations agreed to work together to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that would formalize their collaboration on the census. The MoU is expected to be signed in the coming weeks.

The NCS is a professional organization that represents information communication technology professionals in Nigeria. The NPC is a government agency responsible for conducting Population and Housing Censuses and surveys in Nigeria.

In another event, Prof. Adesina Sodiya, President, Nigeria Computer Society while briefing the Press urged the incoming administration of Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu to continue with the census process.

He emphasized the importance of the census in national planning and development, saying “census is very important for national planning and development.

“We need it for education, agriculture and give accurate demographic information about us.”

Sodiya who expressed the commitment of the Computer Society to a credible digital census, commended National Population Commission for its digital preparation for the census.

Sodiya said the group had proposed what he described as IT Cadre to the government aimed at enhancing the digital policy of the government.

According to him, any person or group that carries out activities digitally will always get the support of the group.

The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has been championing IT development for four decades now.
