The Chairman of National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, on 2nd September 2025, addressed participants at the second quarterly engagement of the Honourable Minister for Education with the Heads of Departments and Chief Executives of Parastatals held at the Federal Ministry of Education Office in Abuja. His presentation focused on the implementation of the digital Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (e-CRVS) solution.
In his remarks, Hon. Kwarra underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration between the NPC and the Ministry of Education. He emphasized that academic institutions stand to gain significantly from the benefits offered by the digitized CRVS system, which includes instant and reliable verification dashboards for birth and death records, as well as foundational identity data. "The digitized CRVS system will help reduce fraud in admissions and examinations across educational institutions in Nigeria, ensuring that every verification process is seamless, authentic, and tamper-proof," he stated.
The NPC Chairman highlighted that the digital CRVS application, named VITALREG, together with the National Geospatial Data Repository, was launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on 8th November 2023.
Hon. Kwarra also revealed that the NPC has successfully obtained geo-coordinates for all structures in Nigeria, including academic institutions, through the Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) exercise conducted in all 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in preparation for the upcoming census. He expressed the NPC's willingness to share this valuable data with the Ministry of Education and other MDAs.
The event was attended by notable figures, including the Honourable Minister for Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa; Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa'idu Ahmad; and Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, along with various Heads of Parastatals and Departments.
Hon. Kwarra was accompanied by the Director-General of the NPC, Dr. Osifo Tellson Ojogun, and other key officials from the Commission. The discussions signal a pivotal step towards enhancing the synergy between population data management and the educational sector, ultimately aiming to foster a more efficient and reliable system for future generations.
